Renewed Confidence in the Market.
Clear signs of renewed confidence in the market for accountancy practices began to emerge last year. There was a significant increase in the number of sale instructions received than had been seen in 2009. Prices for practices has remained steady throughout 2010, with good quality practices with a turnover of less than £350,000 attracting multiples of between 1 and 1.15 (for deals with clawback) and some above that. Multiples vary for larger practices. There is much more variation on price now depending primarily upon location and quality of client base.
Demand for practices is still buoyant. In terms of size there is demand across the board from £50k to £1m+. Each new sale marketed generates serious interest from often 10 to 20 firms, with some having 30+ firms interested.
